MooHelper is a free software to help teachers to maintain their Moodle sites, especially to upload rich format content with images.
Moodle is probably the most famous software package for producing Internet-based courses. However, adding images to the Moodle site is never to be an easy task. For example, if you want to upload a chemical question with several organic structures, you have to first convert chemical structures to images, then upload images to Moodle repository, at last, insert them in Moodle’s WYSWIG editor. All those steps are boring and robotic.
MooHelper is right here to help you out of that swamp. In MooHelper, you can edit your content in familiar MS-Word style window, insert, delete, copy or paste texts, tables, shapes, images and other objects as much as you like, then upload the whole content to Moodle with just one click.

You can now navigate through your web site as easy as in any other web browsers. In MooHelper, each Moodle site you added has its own browser tab. So you can manage multiple Moodle site at the same time without the concern of mixing them up.
The biggest convenience MooHelper brings you is editing/submitting rich format content. In Moodle, we often meet a WYSWIG (What you see is what you get) editor on web page. For instance, when adding or editing questions, this editor is used for inputting texts and images.
WYSWIG Editor in Moodle Page
To input and edit text in the editor is quite straightforward. however, to insert images is a big problem. You have to click on the image button, click on “upload image” link, browse a image on local disk, upload the image, and at last insert the image link to editor. MooHelper brings you a much quick approach. You can click and focus in the WYSWIG editor, click on “Word Editor” button on the toolbar of MooHelper, then a window that embedded MS Word will popped up.
You may have to wait for a while in the first time launching Word editor, but after that, it will be launched much faster. In the Word editor window, you can do almost anything as in MS Word, like inputting text, changing format, inserting images and so on.
Edit content in Word editor
After all is done, just click on “Done” button to the bottom right of window. MooHelper will automatically convert and upload all images (four in this case), then insert all content into the WYSWIG editor of Moodle.

After that, don’t forget to click on “save” button in web page to persist your modifications.
Using MooHelper’s Word editor is easy and comfortable, however, there are really some limitations which you should be aware of. If there are already some content (texts and images) in the WYSWIG editor, when you open Word editor, texts with formats will be displayed correctly in Word editor Window but images may be lost (especially when images stored in Moodle’s repository). However if you use custom method to store image (such as save images in external FTP server), images will be displayed normally.
MooHelper also has a handy feature to open Word editor automatically. Open settings dialog and switch to “General” page, you can find a drop down list which determinates in which situation should Word editor be popped up automatically.
Auto Open Word Editor Setting
Word editor is the most powerful function MooHelper brings to you. However, that is not the only thing MooHelper can help you. For example, site bookmark may help you greatly when managing multiple Moodle sites at the same time.
